The Arena District boasts a range of entertainment, eateries and bars from your parking space…or just steps from your front door.

Last week, Nationwide Realty Investors Ltd. started marketing their new five-story apartment complex, Flats II, which is now well under construction west of Nationwide Arena and next to its older sibling, Nationwide-owned Flats on Vine.

Flats II will feature 120 one-and-two bedroom flats, where luxuries like plank flooring, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and modern cabinetry are available. The flats will also include walk-in closets, modern kitchen backsplashes, private balconies and ballpark (one word) views. Reservations and deposits are now being accepted, though construction won’t wrap up until November of this year.

As Nationwide Realty Investor’s marketing partner since 2007, we are thrilled to have been witness to the sprouting of the District’s residential communities. From helping to create brand identities for Flats on Vine and Flats II, to rolling out marketing campaigns for the Flats complexes, Arena Crossing and the Condominiums at North Bank Park, we continue to enjoy the process and seeing our client grow and expand in our city.

As any kid who has ever sold school gift wrap, band candy or popcorn for the Boy Scouts will tell you, fundraising is not easy.

The “asks” are many, funds are precious, and for even the largest, most worthwhile non-profit organizations, the time that people can give is scarce.

It’s not that people don’t want to support great causes. They do. Evening fundraiser galas, for example, are great…in theory. But if you’re a parent, you have a very finite window in the evening, into which you cram sports commitments, homework, maybe dinner, or a little time to play or read together before bath and bed. Weekends are often even worse. So, actually getting to one of those evening soirees is typically just not happening.

Fortunately, COSI understands its audience. And the team there gets it.

This year, to better share COSI’s mission and enable even more people and companies to see the excitement that is ignited through donor participation, the folks at COSI have reinvented their annual evening gala and transformed it into a luncheon unlike any other.

Now known as Catalyst: COSI’s Celebration of Inspiration, this inaugural luncheon fundraiser will showcase donors’ investments at work through engaging activities and inspiring stories from those who have been touched by COSI’s mission.

Peebles Creative Group was thrilled to be involved in the launch of Catalyst, through in-kind donation of our team’s development of the name, identity, save the date card and invitation for this great new event.

We’ll be there and we’d love to see you there, too:

Catalyst: COSI’s Celebration of Inspiration

Tuesday, May 14, 2013 – Noon–1 pm (registration begins at 11:30 am)

COSI, 333 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio

To purchase individual tickets or learn more about the patron and table sponsor opportunities still available for your organization, visit cosi.org/catalyst or call 614.629.3190.

Please consider tearing yourself away from another afternoon of Lean Cuisine at your desk and instead using your weekday lunchtime to join us as we celebrate the inspiration and catalysts that help build a more curious community.

See you there!

Today, we wish a very happy workiversary to Amy Bethel, Manager, Client Services. Amy brings to our team not only her vibrant energy, cakeball-making talent and countless ideas for our office competitions, but also generously shares with us a little furry levity now and then via beloved office mascot, Izzy Biscuits.

Why did you want to be in the marketing and advertising industry?

It is a perfect fit. I love details and organization, yet have a flair for creative thinking. Being an Account Manager in this industry allows me to do it all.

What do you love about working here?

Amazing co-workers. Awesome clients. Comfortable workspace. Interesting projects. Unlimited Gevalia. Menchie’s frozen yogurt less than ten minutes away.

What do you spend your time doing when you aren’t at work?

When I’m not here, you can find me on a patio somewhere or at boxing class or in the Arena District or at the dog park or shopping or trying a new recipe….unless it’s snowing, then look for me hibernating on my couch.

What’s your favorite food?

Sushi, hands down. Mexican coming in a close second…only because of the accompanying margaritas. Cake. Cupcakes. Any kind of cake covered in excessive frosting. White. Yellow. Carrot. Cheese. Chocolate. I don’t discriminate.

If you weren’t managing accounts for us, what other job would you love to have?

I would be the person that creates the names for nail polish at either Essie or OPI. Seriously, this is my dream job. Some people dream of becoming an astronaut or doctor. Nope, I’d be a nail polish namer.

Any favorite books, movies, that you’ve been into recently that you’d recommend?

Lately I’ve been on a documentary kick on Netflix…Objectified, Art & Copy, Food Matters, Forks Over Knives and Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead were all eye-opening!

Favorite subject in school?

Anything that involved math. Or Spanish. Hola.

Best pet of all time and why?

Pugs. Wrinkly weirdos of the canine world. They are comedic genius.

Favorite getaway from work?

The beach. Any beach. Like cake, I do not discriminate against beaches.

Favorite social media site?

Facebook. I love being able to connect with so many people who I would never have the opportunity to keep in touch with otherwise.

Favorite blog that you follow?

Blog? As in just one? I follow at least thirty blogs, daily. I’m a blogoholic. The top spot is a toss between Carrots ‘n’ Cake and The Bloggess. If you are ever looking for a blog, let me know, I know of a few…hundred.

Favorite local or national brand advertising and why?

DSW. I didn’t know it was possible for a brand to make me love shoes even more.

What would you like to be known for?

Being awesome. And my purse collection.

We’re extending congratulations to Grow Licking County CIC on this weekend’s launch of its new economic development website, growlickingcounty.org.

After creating the organization’s brand identity, messaging and foundational stationery system materials, we were challenged to design a website for the organization that provided comprehensive, online access to the information that business owners and site selectors need when making an informed decision about relocating to Licking County.

Features of the new website include downloadable maps, county statistics, new property highlights, searchable interface with Xceligent’s database of properties for lease and for sale, and a special site selectors section designed to help make their experience in finding valuable Licking County information for their clients as quick and convenient as possible.

Grow Licking County is also working with us now on additional marketing materials to tell even more about why Licking County is such an ideal choice for businesses looking to grow or expand in this close-knit, welcoming community that is becoming known for its strong infrastructure, diverse workforce, exciting amenities and incentives, and its incredibly pro-business attitude.

We’ve enjoyed immensely getting to know and work with the Licking County staff and feel privileged to be entrusted with a sneak peek at the exciting things being planned by their team for the county.

Grow Licking County’s new website was developed in conjunction with Switchbox, Inc., with which Peebles Creative Group has also partnered on websites for the Ohio Historical Society’s Creative Learning Factory, national author and speaker Barbara McVicker, and the Downtown Worthington Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The annual competitive season is (finally) over. The Super Bowl ads had their moment of glory. The Golden Globes, SAG Awards and Academy Awards have gone, stage left. And the local Addy Awards competition has once again wrapped up.

We’re often asked why we no longer enter our work in the Addys. Quite simply, it’s because we do what we do for our clients, not for the awards. To us, the trophies aren’t nearly as important as whether or not our clients see real results from their marketing.

With one of our oldest clients, COSI, it’s a pleasure to see that after 15 years, our partnership continues to generate very real results, especially in a few new arenas.

COSI recently presented Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS & The Brain, a much talked about and well-attended traveling anatomical exhibition. BODY WORLDS gave an educational, inside look at people who made their bodies available after death for instruction of the public through a process called Plastination, which halts decomposition and preserves anatomical specimens.

As part of the marketing for BODY WORLDS, plus COSI’s new LEGO Castle exhibit and its membership recruitment efforts, we helped the COSI marketing team test new ways to invest their digital marketing budget beyond the tracking pixel retargeting, demographic and geographic targeting we did in conjunction with COSI’s previous traditional print, radio and outdoor campaigns.

Technology is an amazing thing.

Through the use of COSI’s past visitor data and compiled target audience data for the exhibits, we together arrived at the demographic profile, locations and businesses we wanted to target for Fall 2012. Then, by identifying and utilizing unique IP addresses, COSI served reminder ads and new messages to those target audiences, not only by zip codes, but down to exact neighborhoods within particular zip codes that fit the target audience profile.

Because of the unique nature of BODY WORLDS, we anticipated that people in the medical field would have a heightened interest in the exhibit. So, COSI also targeted medical organizations’ IP addresses to reach medical personnel while at work.

COSI achieved over 3 million impressions and 35,000 ad clicks over a 3-month period. Its Columbus DMA zip code targeting in particular achieved an overall Click Through Rate (CTR) of 1.52%, which is 508% higher than the industry average of .25%. We know these results aren’t the norm and believe the strong CTR can be directly attributed to really accurate targeting, striking impact of the BODY WORLDS & The Brain ad visuals, and intrigue in the exhibit itself. We’re thrilled for COSI that they were willing to test the technology and achieve these results.

If you’ve been curious about digital marketing, but aren’t sure exactly where or how to start, let us know. We can’t promise you a trophy. But we will guarantee you helpful information, great creative and measurable stats that show whether your marketing dollars have been well spent.

Though we’ve had a few spring-like days that have had us busting out of our winter caves this year, the winter/early spring period in Ohio is sometimes just…a bear. We brave the cold temperatures, snow and rain just long enough to get home and crawl into our cocoons of fuzzy blankets, tube socks and big sweatshirts…and just dive into the DVR.

It takes a lot to coax us out of our caves…a little fun, a little excitement and a little adventure. As luck would have it, there’s some of each sprinkled into Cabin Fever Weekends, going on every Saturday and Sunday, January through March at the Museum at the Ohio History Center.

Friends and families can explore Ohio’s history together through hands-on activities like touching real mastodon bones, trying out old-fashioned toys, games and vintage writing tools, shining black lights on antiques and more!

Themed weekend topics change every two weeks, providing new experiences with each visit.

This coming weekend, February 9 and 10, explore how technology goes beyond gadgets and gizmos with Technology in Ohio:

- Learn about the many ways Ohioans have used technology to make life easier and how those advancements have changed our society.

- Be involved in a discussion about why advertisements tell us about everyday life in the past. Look at old advertisements and talk about the possible stories behind them.

- Find out how the streetcar changed where people lived and how they commuted to and from work and even present an invention and create an advertisement to sell your invention!

Each program lasts approximately 30 minutes and is included with admission to the Ohio History Center.

For a complete list of themes and hour-by-hour schedules, click here.

We had a great time with production of the Cabin Fever radio spot, but we suspect you’ll have even more fun when you ditch the winter cave for a little weekend fun at the Museum at the Ohio History Center. See you there!

The exhibit served up challenges and puzzles that warranted each of our team members to tilt their head in confusion at least once or twice. An awesome team building experience and great idea for families…this exhibit was definitely one that we would recommend for all ages. If you visit, don’t forget to venture by the Spelling Disco…a PCG team favorite!

“Team building exercises” sometimes means tug-of-war, egg drops, balloon races, the human knot, and the good ole’ trust lean.

Thankfully, we’re doing none of the above and have decided to conduct our team building exercise at COSI’s limited engagement exhibit, Mindbender Mansion & Amazing Mazes. We’ll head down to COSI next week to solve brainteasers and group challenges, including a tilt table, forming patterns using rolling chairs, keeping up with a speeding conveyor belt, and disco hopscotch spelling. I don’t know about the rest of my team, but anything with the words disco and hopscotch… I’m in.

Mindbender Mansion features 40 individual brainteasers and five large-scale group activities. We’ve already begun preparation to stretch our mental muscles to gather hidden clues and secret passwords that will help us qualify for the Mindbender Society. To become a member of the Society means you take home a personalized certificate and see your portrait up on the Wall of Fame!

Amazing Mazes includes challenging and interactive mazes for all ages including a Music Maze, Puzzle Maze, Color Maze and Maze of Illusions! We’re excited to check out Glimpse of Infinity, where we will find out how eight mirrors at 45-degree angles create the illusions of infinity. And I can only imagine what our group will come up with in Fun House Mirrors, where you can stretch your face and bend your body into impossible shapes. We might even post pictures on our Facebook page to show you the quirky side of Team PCG.

Mindbender Mansion & Amazing Mazes runs from January 26 through April 28 and is fun for families and classes of all ages and generations. The exhibit is free with a COSI Membership or general admission.

Stop back in after next week for photos and results to see who earned bragging rights!
